Pre-trip checks for motorhomes and caravans

A good journey starts before departure. A quick look at your motorhome or caravan, its bodywork and its living-area systems can reveal issues while there is still time to deal with them.

Check the vehicle and body

Inspect the tyres and lights and look for visible damage. Check windows, rooflights, hatches and seals too. Damp patches or unusual smells inside deserve attention before you travel. For a motorhome, include the base vehicle and its routine service items.

Test the living-area systems

Run water at every outlet and look for leaks around the connections. Check the battery, lighting and equipment you plan to use. Gas and electrical work should be handled by qualified professionals; if something seems wrong, arrange a proper inspection.
